Duo BARAZZ

is saxophonist Dorthe Højland and organist Lára Bryndís Eggertsdóttir, musicians who come from two very different musical dimensions. Lára is passionate about music from the BARoque period, while Dorthe feels most at home in the world of jAZZ. Put the two together and you get: duo BARAZZ.

In the magical melding of these two dimensions, new, slightly unpredictable music tends to materialize, bringing audience members to the edges of their seats. With many years of rehearsal and numerous concerts in both Iceland and Denmark under their belts, the duo has developed its own special sound: a bit of Baroque, a jot of jazz, a modicum of mystique, and a nod to their shared Nordic folkways. In short: a little bit of everything!

The Danish Dorthe Højland received her degree in saxophone performance and pedagogy from The Academy of Music in Aalborg, Denmark, and has studied saxophone and composition with award-winning soprano saxophonist Jane Ira Bloom in New York. Dorthe is the leader of her own group, Dorthe Højland Group, and she plays with the saxophone quartet SaxTalk as she playing freelance. She lives in Ry, Denmark.

The Icelandic Lára Bryndís Eggertsdóttir completed her soloist diploma from the National Church School of Music in Iceland under the guidance of Hörður Áskelsson. She moved back to Iceland in 2018 after living in Denmark for 10 years. There she pursued further studies (Cand. Mus.) in church music at the Aarhus Royal Academy of Music, as well as holding the position of organist at Sønderbro Church in Horsens and principal harpsichordist of the professional baroque ensemble BaroqueAros in Aarhus. Lára Bryndís Eggertsdóttir is since April 2022 organist at Grafarvogskirkja in Reykjavík, the largest congregation in Iceland.
